Following the World Wide Web, the Internet of Things (IoT) will be the next revolutionin computer networking. Like World Wide Web, IoT will face numerous issues of securityand privacy. These issues in IoT will be overcome by a new network architecture calledSoftware Defined Networking (SDN) by its simplicity, programmability and elasticity.SDN has ability to connect together all IoT devices both for IoT services as well astraditional services and provide a way to transmit a large amount of data generated byIoT. Our work mainly focus on security of IoT especially DoS/DDoS attacks on IoT. Ourwork will provide a solution to this problem with the help of strong security mechanismof SDN, Blockchain technology, new protocol development and information theory. TheBlockchain Enabled Protocol(BEP) and SDN architecture will be exploited to enhanceIoT security by a highly preventive security monitoring, analysis and response system.By SDN, Blockchain technology, information theory and new protocol development,we will capable not only detect the DoS/DDoS attacks on IoT but also mitigate thevulnerabilities. We will develop BEP which will be used for communication of Blockchainrelated activities. We will coin an idea of Self Exposing Node (SEN). SEN could be asensor or actuator node within the IoT network. SEN provides information about theinbound and outbound traffic to the BEP. This information will be used for the analysisof the DoS/DDoS attacks on IoT. SEN will calculate the entropies of the features of theinbound and outbound traffic and handover it to the Blockchain as data of the block.BEP will pick the whole mined blocks’ transactions and transmit it to the controllernode. The controller node will correlate data of SENs and decide the DoS or DDoSattack. So, there are two decision points, one is SEN and another is controller. On thebasis of correlation results, the controller with the help of OpenFlow Manager (OFM)will block the SEN(s) which is(are) part of the botnet(s). Read more
