ELL Critical Data Process - Third Edition: Driven by Evidence, Supported by Data

The ELL Critical Data Process is a process that teams use to understand if the struggles of a language learner are due to language acquisition or are due to the combination of language acquisition and a possible disability. The primary difference between the third edition (revised) and the fourth edition is the emphasis. That is, both guide teams through discussions based on evidence and data, with the third edition revised giving more weight to evidence and the fourth edition giving more weight to data. The teams will have a much greater understanding of the root problem after completing the process and will have the context needed to either redesign intervention(s), design new intervention(s), or process a referral (and potentially a special education evaluation).If your district struggles to gather data, start with the third edition. I do believe that the fourth edition can lead to more powerful systems level changes via the greater focus on data.
