“The Minister’s Wooing” is a historical novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe first published in 1859. Set in the New England town of Newport, Rhode Island (when it was still a prosperous fishing and shipping town) the novel explores New England history, highlights the issue of slavery, and critiques the Calvinist theology. It is considered a “sentimental romance” between a 40-year-old minister Dr. Hopkins and Mary. This edition was published by H. M. Caldwell Co of New York and Boston. There is no stated copywrite, but Caldwell publishing was only in business between 1896 to 1914 (as the imprint was sold to Dana Estes in 1910). The long and short of that is this book was published sometime between those years but based on the cover, pastedown, title page decorations probably circa 1910. Frontispiece is a sepia image of Stowe with green decoration around the picture.
