six notches are uniformly spread around the edge of the backplate. the notches are there to engage with an appropriate tool to rotate the plate off the watch.
To check watch, and replace battery, I took watch to a jeweler. Jeweler scratched the backplate. Apparently, jeweler didn’t have or use the right tool.
I will include in your purchase (1) extra new battery and the (2) Watch Back Case Remover and Watch Opener
